Using Percent Change Calculations

A percent change calculation is a simple and easy way to express the difference in two values in terms of percentage of the first (or original) value.

There are myriad use cases for a percent change calculation, but it's most commonly used in the fields of finance, economics, science, and business.

Showing a percent change can, at times, be more powerful than a straight comparison of two numbers. For example, the difference between 1 and 1.1 might seem small, but a 10% increase could be more meaningful to an analysis.
